Recap:
Since today was a national holiday, I spent most of the day with my dad. Started off with morning dim sum with my dad and my grandma. Itised after that, so went home for a nap and then headed out at like 4. Nothing really special there.
So my dad decides to impulsively buy a new LG phone. Funny because when he was asking the sales lady about the features of the phone, he kept following up with "so it's similar to the iPhone right?". If you want the iPhone so bad, just get it! Why settle for anything less than the best phone in the world...
Stopped for a mid-day snack before camping out for the fireworks show at night. Got a somewhat traditional fried Chinese french toast (except this one had ham in the middle) and of course my daily dose of milk tea. As you can judge by that bigass ball of butter on the side of the plate, this is by far one of the most unhealthy things you can eat in HK. But what you didn't know was that this is also one of the most DELICIOUS things you can eat in HK haha. My double chin thanks me for this....
After that, it was time to set up camp for the next 3 hours. Since people from all over China come here just to watch the annual fireworks show, we decided to start looking for a spot by the Harbour at 6pm for the 9pm show. Please take a look at the above picture carefully. This was taken at 6pm and it was already PACKED. And it only got worse from there on out...
Luckily we found a prime spot by the water. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the beautiful skyline of Hong Kong :)
Believe it or not, these people actually got here before we did. My dad told me that people start saving seats at like 2pm...damn...
We joined the rest of the crowd and decided to go China-style by laying on newspapers. That shit was NOT comfortable at all....
Getting darker.
For those that read my tweet, THIS dude (#14)....this MF-ing dude...was screaming into his phone for literally 20 mins straight. Now for those who thought I over-reacted in anger (i.e. Wayne), you may be right. But try being in my shoes and have someone scream in your ear "I CAN'T COME OUT. CAN YOU SEE ME? I CAN'T COME OUT. I CAN'T COME OUT. CAN YOU SEE ME? I CAN'T COME OUT. I CAN'T COME OUT. I CAN'T COME OUT. I CAN'T COME OUT." for over 20 mins, and then we'll talk.
Almost time!
FIREWORKS!!!!! Trust me on this, you have not seen a real fireworks show until you've seen one in HK. This blows Canada right off the map..."blows" haha pause. But enjoy! I decided to just upload all the vids. I was holding the camera up with my hand the entire time, so apologies for the camera shakiness. I sacrificed for you guys...
Notable highlights: 2:50 min mark - ladies, you will enjoy this.
I recommend watching the entire last clip if you guys have time, especially the epic ending. It's pretty sick because these are NEW fireworks, they're not your typical ones, these are multi-coloured ones with different timed explosions. You may think it's nothing, but I think it's pretty cool. Overall, this was probably one of the best, if not the best, fireworks show I've seen in my life. There were 3 different ships shooting fireworks at the same time. Despite the 3-hour wait being damn irritating, I'd have to say it was worth it. But will I do it again? Hell no...stupid #14 ruined it for me :@
The aftermath - packed packed packed streets.
These pics are a little blurry, but you get the picture. It honestly felt like New Year's in NYC.
Everybody rushing for the subway station
Inside the subway station. "The harder we push, the faster we will get there!" -Simpsons
This is random, but I thought it was funny.
After fireworks, it was parrrty time in LKF with the crew! We first went to 7/11 (yes, your typical buy-milk-for-your-kids 7/11 convenience store) to pre-drink. Each person downed like a litre of beer before we went into this club called Beijing. Finding out that it was empty (it was around 11:30pm at this point, but clubs in HK don't get poppin' until 12:30 to 1), we decided to chill at another bar for awhile and go back to Beijing later. While everyone else went to sheesha, Huang and I stopped by at Huang's friend Cassie's bday jam at this club called Taz. No lie, this club was STRAIGHT ballin'. You know you're in the high-rollers' clubs when there are frigging pool tables in the MIDDLE of the club and people are popping champagne bottles in the booths!! While the club-setting was definitely first-class material, the girls were once again not.....*sigh*. Regardless, I'm glad I got to chill and have a few drinks in such a fancy club. Guess I'm fancy huh (8). We then headed back to Beijing where it felt like I was back in the subway station after the fireworks. Club was packed as hell, and the girls..........as you can see, by now, I'm starting to run out of words to describe them......*double sign*. After another hour or so of cramming through groups of guys and other groups of girls that looked like guys, we decided to call it a night and head home.
It is now 11:55am, time to catch up on some sleep.
Good vids, defintely better than anything ive seen here.
ReplyDeleteAlso, caught that Drake reference. u are indeed fancy.

@janet: best chocolate ice cream in HK eh? i definitely gotta try that then. if you have anymore sweets recommendations, send them my way please! haha
ReplyDeleteBeijing Club and Volar are the two places where all the locals go to. You should've tried "azure" - people were telling me to go there. Although I'm sure it's very much like Privé, the view from azure is apparently gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, Ben! Fail on Huang.
@j.wong: thanks joanne. and to think Huang called me out on the lack of daily updates...this man has not even touched his blog in the last 2 days. tsk tsk, blog-off won by me
