Woke up this morning at 7:30am to go on a cruise around the HK islands with my dad, courtesy of Bank of China. If it wasn't for the blazing sun and the kill-me-now type of heat, I would've thoroughly enjoyed it more. Nonetheless, got to witness life on the country side without cars and whatnot (extremely dirty and looked like the projects in some parts, not gonna lie). Definitely would NOT be able to survive in that environment, spartan or not.... anyways, pictures below for your enjoyment.
Recap
Breakfast of the champions baby! Notice how there's a turnip cake with the egg and ham. Yeah, I don't know why either....must be a HK thing.
After breakfast, it was cruise time! Meet up spot was right outside the University of Hong Kong. Got a glimpse of their track and basketball courts. Impressive...
MTR University Station
First stop was Tap Mun (all the other islands basically looked the same to me...)
The locals going about their daily business and selling their products (I say "products" because I have no clue what fish was what. They all looked the same to me and they all looked grimey...)
Me and my pops on top of the mountain peak! We both decided not to put on sunscreen and we paid dearly for it. Sorry Angela, I think you might have a serious contender for the award for the darkest Asian haha
This island is supposed to look like a duck, with the beak on the left and that hole as its eye. Don't really remember what the name of the island is called, but I'm gonna take a safe guess and say Duck Island. Yeaup, sounds about right.
Bootiful scenery
RAW SQUID! I actually thought they were jellyfish at first....don't they look like it??
Not-so-raw squid. I couldn't tell if they were cooked or just dried up...
Even out in the most random places, there is still a basketball court. Who needs cars and computers when you have a ball and a net?!! I always knew Chinese people were serious about their basketball, but I didn't know it was THIS serious. I fucking love it though.
Our big ass boat in the background and a bunch of mini-me boats in the foreground.
Someone tell me what a "Tree Failure" is and they will get 1,000,000 cool points in my book. If not, I'm considering this an Engrish fail....
By far the BEST PART OF THE TRIP was the lunch. My God, if sex came in seafood form, then I think I just had the best sex of my life. This was by FAR the best, most fresh, meal I've ever had. Top left was fish, top right was crab, bottom left was sweet&sour pork, bottom right was squid balls. SO FRICKING GOOD! For those that think this is just another meal (because hey, it's just sweet&sour pork right?) you are TERRIBLY WRONG. Everything tastes SO different from what we're used to because everything is natural and fresh. The squid balls, for example, are made of 100% SQUID (versus what we are used to eating is probably like 5% real squid). The crab was unbelievable too because the shells were soft shells, so you could easily just bite into them (not the usual rock-hard shells that chip your tooth when you try to bite into them). The itis afterwards was well worth it.
And the shrimp, my God the shrimp. I never knew fresh shrimp could be so naturally-sweet, not to mention BIG. I kid you not, those shrimps that I'm holding where like the size of my HAND. I've never seen anything like it!
There's that itis I was talking about.... Like father, like son.
[VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED]
So the video above was taken from one of the islands. In case you watch it and still don't know what's going on, the video is of an ARMY of red ants (not fire ants though) carrying 3 dead lizards back and forth. They weren't trying to eat it right away, I think they were just trying to carrying it back home to store the food or something. I shit you not, there were easily over 500 ants, if not more, inside that little map display thing. If that doesn't give you goosebumps, then I don't know what will. WATCH THE VIDEO AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION!
After the cruise, I met up with Sean, Wayne and Huang for dinner at McDs and some light shopping before heading over to Victoria Park to run some ball. Competition wasn't the best, but the humidity and the heat was enough to kill us after like 5 mins of playing.... Here is the video of our first game should you care to watch (thanks Wayne for filming):
Tried out this new Sakana Supreme burger, which is somewhat similar to a Filet-O-Fish except with a different sauce. Verdict: ehhhh 3/5 Lambo Stars.
Saw this sick D-Will throwback jersey at the mall...This is for you Tim.
HK drinks:
"Minute Maid White Grape Juice Drink with Aloe Vera Pulps" - HK people are geniuses. Straight geniuses.
"Schweppes Cream Soda" - available only in HK
And of course, a classic and my favourite Vita Soy drink...MALTZ! Gotta have the maltz...
All in all, good day and good night. I leave you with a picture from my family dinner of my cousins and my grandma. Enjoy.
Schweppes Cream Soda is available in Toronto - but just uberly expensive.
ReplyDeletePlease bring back some white grape + aloe vera for me. Pls and thx.
